We are hiring Underwriting Assistants based in Markham, Ontario
Working under supervision, the Underwriting Assistant is responsible for providing support to the underwriting team and our broker clients.
The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to assigned underwriting files in accordance with established guidelines and business objectives in the achievement of national standards for data quality and service levels.
Perform data entry activities in a fast-paced environment.
Assist with customer and broker inquiries
Triage incoming risks and assign to underwriters
Enter simple risks into various company and/or internal rating portals
Support the review and issuance of endorsements and certificates
Notify brokers of upcoming renewals
Provide administrative and clerical support to assigned underwriting files.
Prepare files for underwriting review and attaching any required underwriting documentation.
Maintain all electronic and paper filing for assigned underwriting files.
Process internal and other correspondences and requests received from the underwriters
Respond to client service requests and gather relevant information to allow for quick and accurate processing of inquiries.
Identify, and verify policy errors and notify the appropriate parties.
Process internal and other correspondences and requests received by the underwriting department
Assist in the timely issuance of binders and policies as well as the timely collection of premium
Enter and maintain risk information into the various information systems and administer the accounts
High School diploma
Post-secondary education an asset
Working towards a professional designation CIP or CRM
Strong technical/computer skills
Demonstrated customer service skills.
Ability to prioritize daily tasks and multi-task.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments
Ability to evaluate simple problems and develop solutions within underwriting guidelines.

Experience working in TAM and PolicyWorks is an asset

Comfortable communicating with clients (in person, email, and telephone inquiries.)
Answer telephones promptly and courteously.
Provide quotes and answer policy coverage questions in an efficient, professional and friendly manner.
Follow up with clients’ needs in a timely manner.
Maintain good relationships with broker clients.
